The Lineage of the Crown
(i.e. past Avery officers)
This page gives a list of past Avery House officers. The list is still incomplete and much work has yet to be done; that said, this is the most complete, comprehensive list you will find anywhere on the subject.
RA's and FiR are not elected or appointed by the House and are therefore technically not "Officers" (although they are valuable and important members nonetheless). Click on the following links for information about

Chancellor
The Chancellor is often regarded as the "head of state" of Avery House. Although the office has been formally in existence since the writing of the 1996 Constitution almost nothing is known about the chancellors of Avery prior to 2002. Originally, the Council appointed the chancellor; however, subsequent revisions of the Constitution demanded that he be elected by House vote.
Past Chancellors:
Matt Vanderzee (??/??/?? - ??/??/??), around 1996-97
Jonathan Chang (??/??/?? - ??/??/??), around 2002-03
Derrick (Yuan) Sun (??/??/?? - 3/10/04)
Orion Crisafulli (interim) (3/10/04 - 5/17/04)
Ryan Witt (5/17/04 - 1/24/05)
Erik Dreyer (interim) (1/24/05 - 4/23/05)
Erik Dreyer (4/23/05 - 10/20/05)
Harold Hsu (10/20/05 - 2/9/08)
Joules Gould (2/9/08 - 2/21/09)
David Lee (2/21/09 - present)
Vice Chancellor
There was no vice chancellor under the 1996 or 2002 drafts of the Constitution because the Council felt that there was no need to appoint someone to assist the Chancellor in his duties. From 2002 to late 2004, the system worked fine; however, once Ryan Witt became Chancellor, it began to fall apart.
The increasing role of Council in Avery affairs, the heated controversy over housing freshmen in Avery, and the necessity to implement reforms to create a supportive environment for frosh, put an unprecedented burden on the members of Council and on the Chancellor in particular. When Ryan Witt resigned in early 2005, one fact was clear: the job was too big for a single person.
Thus, on January 15, 2005, the Council decided to divide the duties of the Chancellor among three officers: the Chancellor (external affairs), the Vice Chancellor (internal affairs), and the Housing Rep (housing affairs). Eventually, the Housing rep disappeared and its duties were divided between the Chancellor and Secretary, while the Vice Chancellor evolved into a separate office not unlike the Vice Presidents of the Seven Houses.

Evan Gawlik (2/9/08 - 2/21/09)

Social Director
My knowledge of Social Team in the pre-House era is very limited at best. Unlike Council, Social Team did not publish meeting minutes; nor did they keep records or appoint officers. Furthermore, from a historian's perepective, Social Team appears to have been very informal and often ill-defined, since many social events were planned by members of Council or by other interested individuals.
The Social Director did not exist as a formal office before the 2004 draft of the Constitution; this seems to indicate that the need for Social Team leadership became apparent in the 2003-04 academic year. There was one person who was referred to as a "social director" before then; however, the details are all shrouded by the darkly veiled lens of history.
During Harold's years as chancellor, the office of the Social Director rose in prominence because many miscellaneous government tasks that would otherwise be assigned to the chancellor were done by John Liu and Joules Gould. Whether this will continue or reverse itself will depend largely on the relative enthusiasm of future Chancellors and Social Directors.
Past Social Directors
Molly Zacher (??/??/?? - ??/??/??), around 1997
Jason Yosinski (??/??/?? - ??/??/??), around 2004
Kewell Zheng (4/23/05 - 1/18/06)
Melisa Xin (1/18/06 - 4/15/06)
John Liu (4/15/06 - 3/9/07)
Joules Gould (3/9/07 - 2/9/08)
Ryan Hamerly (2/9/08 - 2/21/09)
Wesley Chen (2/21/09 - present)
Athletics Manager
Thanks to the insistence of several involved Averites, as well as the inevitable consequences of Avery's transformation into a House, the IHC worked out a plan that allowed Avery to participate in Interhouse sports beginning Fall 2005. Participation in Interhouse athletics necessitated the creation of an athletics team and an athletics manager, and in October of 2005, a frosh named Camden Jansen was appointed by the Council as Avery's first Athman.
Past Athletics Managers
Camden Jansen (10/10/05 - 4/15/06)
Eric Tai (4/15/06 - 3/9/07)
Hailey Lam (3/9/07 - 2/9/08)
Justine Chia (2/9/08 - 2/21/09)
Dingchao Lu (2/21/09 - present)
Before 2003, Avery was considered "off-campus", and there was no reason for ASCIT to add an Avery representative to the
BoC. Soon after Avery became a House, however, the need for a
BoC rep became immediately apparent. Although Shai Barak was elected Avery
BoC rep in 2005, her election was declared invalid as ASCIT hadn't yet changed the bylaws to have an Avery Rep.(she was subsequently elected Avery/off-campus
BoC rep in the off-campus election). Future
BoC rep elections were universally recognized by ASCIT and the
BoC.
Past BoC Reps
Shai Barak (4/23/05 - 5/24/06),
Eric Stansifer (5/24/06 - 10/30/07)
Akin Omigbodun (10/30/07 - 3/15/08)
Debbie Tseng (3/15/08 - 3/15/09)
Jack (Pengcheng) Wang (3/15/09 - present)
ARC Rep
As with the
BoC, Avery had no official representation on the ARC before 2005 because it was considered "off-campus". Soon after Avery became a House, the need for an Avery rep became apparent, and the first Avery ARC rep was chosen in an uncontested election in 2005.
Past ARC Reps
Wendy Xu (4/25/05 - ??/??/??)
Caleb Ng (??/??/?? - 1/5/07)
Ryan Hamerly (1/5/07 - 2/28/08)
Wesley Yu (2/28/08 - 3/1/09)
Joy Lin (3/1/09 - present)
CRC Rep
Due to reasons I am not currently aware of (likely relating to changes in ASCIT bylaws), Avery did not elect a CRC rep for the 2005-06 or 2006-07 academic years. The first Avery CRC rep, Daniel Thai, was appointed by Harold in the spring of 2007.
Past CRC Reps
Daniel Thai (5/28/07 - 11/4/08)
Karthik Sarma (11/10/08 [1] - 3/1/09)
Vivian Yang (3/1/09 - present)
Food Rep
Avery has had a food rep since the beginning, which is understandable, given that Avery's board plan is significantly different from those of the Seven Houses.
Past Food Reps
Dan Kaplan (10/30/97 - 4/22/98)
Onureena Banerjee (5/27/98 - 6/??/98)
Chad Coulliette (11/5/98 - ??/??/??)
Yuliya Ruvinskaya (before 11/7/00 - 6/??/02)
Ye Li (10/17/02 - 6/??/03)
Grace Chuang (10/??/03 - 11/3/04)
Naboon & Jackie (2/6/05 - 6/??/06)
Rachel Reddick (10/9/06 - 5/29/07)
Huiling Chen (5/29/07 - 10/12/08)
Constantine Evans (10/12/08 - present)
